How things have changed

The start of a year always makes you reflect upon things that have changed and one thing that popped into my head was how much the internet had changed. When i first hit the internet, no less a complete n00b like everyone else the only way people would know you existed was by creating a webpage. Oh they were ugly things back then too. I want through the process of copying every trend that came through, from frames, the picture splash pages, to those never ending flash splash pages, and so on. Now the trend is may not have progressed in style (just look at myspace, how on earth could something so ugly actually ever become so successful?) but it has in function. Web logs or Blogs have become the social norm from people of all technical backgrounds can have their small haven on the internet that people will actually stay around and read. Not back in the day would anyone have gotten the numbers to read anything off your homemade website. I wonder what new things await us in 2007 on the personal social front, all i know is that in 3 years time we're going to back to see what happened to HAL 9000 from 2001.
